One thing search engines really like to see is external links to a page. In general, the more people link to a page, the more weight the search engine assigns to the significance of that page.
Now unfortuntely one of the great under-used resources on the web -- The Internet Archive Wayback Machine isn't readily accessible by most search engines.
The archive is stored in a database, and pages are generated on demand by a CGI program. In order to make these links available to 'bots you have to look the page up and copy the user-friendly URLs to a page they can see.
