Wayback Links to DANTES Subject Standardized Tests DSST

One thing search engines really like to see is external links to a page. In general, the more people link to a page, the more weight the search engine assigns to the significance of that page.

Now unfortuntely one of the great under-used resources on the web -- The Internet Archive Wayback Machine isn't readily accessible by most search engines.

The archive is stored in a database, and pages are generated on demand by a CGI program. In order to make these links available to 'bots you have to look the page up and copy the user-friendly URLs to a page they can see.

For example look at this output for Index - Credit by Examination - DANTES:

Amazon.com's "Grownup School" Expert Guides

When people do something that's basically a waste of time, they often characterize it as "a labor of love." These feeds are like that. But it's a sick twisted co-dependent love I must say.

These resyndications of Amazon.com's "Grownup School" -- a series of "So You'd Like to ..." guides by recognized experts in their respective fields are not covered by Amazon Web Services. They have to be screen-scraped. That's not so bad, but Amazon is constantly twiddling with the presentation elements of the source pages, which makes these feeds very fragile (i.e. they're "broken" far too often.)

Since they aren't even "real" feeds in the sense that the content seldom changes (Feed aficionados like the term "evergreen" for static feeds.) you might wonder why I bother. I guess I learn a lot about Amazon's page construction and screen-scraping generally but one of these days I may just let these go to seed.

Nursing Books @ Amazon.com

Amazon.com really could do a better job of indexing their medical and nursing books, which is where Amazon associates come in. It's not necessary that everybody love your website to make sales. It is sufficient that some people find your approach more convenient or otherwise helpful.

These feeds are based on Amazon Web Services, so they still have the same misclassifications as their browsable categories, but at least they are available via your favorite news aggregator. Besides, there are handy links for sharing these titles with others.

As usual Google missed these:
  1. Nursing Books: General
  2. Nursing Books: Anesthesia
  3. Nursing Books: Cardiac
  4. Nursing Books: Critical & Intensive Care
  5. Nursing Books: Emergency
  6. Nursing Books: Gerontology
  7. Nursing Books: LVN / LPN
  8. Nursing Books: Medical / Surgical
  9. Nursing Books: Mental Health
  10. Nursing Books: Nursing Administration & Management
  11. Nursing Books: Nurse's Aide / Nursing Assistant
  12. Nursing Books: Nursing Education
  13. Nursing Books: Nursing Fundamental & Skills
  14. Nursing Books: Nursing Home & Home Nursing (Ah, keyword-based searching!)
  15. Nursing Books: Nutritionist
  16. Nursing Books: Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN)
  17. Nursing Books: Psychiatric
  18. Nursing Books: Reference
  19. Nursing Books: Tests & Review
  20. Nursing Books: Women's Health

Current Amazon Magazine Lists

Amazon.com recently added "unlimited nesting" to their aStore product. I was initially very pleased, since that will greatly simplify my attempts to create better ways to find amazon products. Unfortunately, it doesn't work quite as well as I might have hoped.

When adding new categories, I have sometimes "lost" earlier input. At first I thought their editing utility was assigning duplicate "node=##" entries to the URL query string. (huh?) My current theory is that it has something to do with AWS BrowseNode changes since the last edit. (HUH??)

To make a long story short, without the "techie" stuff, (as of this posting) the pages exist, but they're not in My aStore navigation, so I think it is a good idea to include my aStore links with today's feeds Google forgot.

Am I missing something here? Is Google indexing these in a separate feeds directory? If so, doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of FeedBurner's "display as webpage in all browsers" option? You'd think Google would be concerned since they bought FeedBurner, and probably paid a lot for it too.

First, there's the http://www.squidoo.com/MS-Magazines/ feed, which lists the Magazine subscriptions that have had big increases in sales over the past 24 hours:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/MoversShakers-MagazinesAmazoncom (Not in aStore)

Then there are a number of "Top Level" Feeds:
